Players know exactly what they're getting with this one - an entertaining and incomplex bit of gaming that provides challenge and smirks in equal measure. While certainly a "safe" game to launch with, it is by no means unremarkable, and the only people who would fail to have fun are those with a fundamental aversion to Mario or platformers in general.


In Mario Kart: Super Circuit, a single Bob-omb appears at the awards ceremony at the end of a Grand Prix alongside other characters. In Battle Mode, once a player has lost all of their balloons, they turn into a Bob-omb and explode upon contact with another player.

A few Banzai Bills are also seen in the first area Larry's Trigger-Happy Castle, where all other Bullet Bill varieties can be found, including Torpedo Teds and King Bills; these Banzai Bills are fired from offscreen areas rather than from Banzai Bill Cannons. In Para-Beetle Parade, four Banzai Bills are also fired from offscreen areas while players are attempting to navigate the skies with Para-Beetles and Heavy Para-Beetles. They start appearing soon after the first Star Coin is collected, guarded by a Big Piranha Plant. These four Banzai Bills are required to be used as stepping stones to proceed further on the level, towards Para-Beetles that are out of reach by other means.

There’s over 100 levels, over a dozen power-ups including a big chunk that are brand new, and the ability to play with up to four players. Pick from Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and a secret unlockable character, all of which have unique abilities and attributes.

Mario Kart Wii retains most of the elements from previous Mario Kart games, especially Mario Kart DS. Players select a racer from a cast of Mario characters, who are all divided into size categories in relation to their stats, and they need to select a vehicle from the class they belong in, all with their own stats. All races start with players at a line corresponding to their proper position, where Lakitu signals the countdown time. Once the time is finished, players race three laps around a race course in an attempt to be first of the pack. Once the third lap is completed, players are ranked points depending on how well they placed in the race. While every previous Mario Kart game allowed for a maximum of eight racers on each course, up to twelve are on the course at a time in Mario Kart Wii. In Grand Prix and VS mode, player characters always start out on the latter positions; once they finish the race, their position is saved as they move on to the next race. Like Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii shows a rating of how well a player performed after the trophy presentation: ★★★, ★★, ★, A, B, C, D, and E (E being the lowest ranking and ★★★ being the highest).


Nintendo has been adding a number of SNES classics to the eShop this year, and that means the company’s rich history is more accessible than ever. Games like Super Mario World are now available to new players and nostalgic fans alike. Super Mario World isn’t called one of the best games of all time for no reason – the platformer is loved and lauded for everything from its tight controls and mobility, to its music and aesthetic. But level design is what ties all of its other triumphs together. With that in mind, I’ve played through the entire game (again) and picked out the ten most iconic and enjoyable levels in the seminal adventure. Here they are, in order of their appearance.

And to date, the last time: this game came out just a year after WarioWare completely changed the character's paradigm and resulted in the "classic" Wario relegated to spinoffs only. Seeing Wario playable in a headliner game like Super Mario 64 is very odd to a player nowadays; if the game were made today, a character like Toad or Toadette would be the likely choice for a fourth character.


Although platforming and adventuring through the Mushroom Kingdom is fun, especially while riding on the back of Yoshi for the first time, the boss battles in Super Mario World leave a little to be desired. On the other hand, the bosses in Super Metroid each present a unique challenge for the player and take full advantage of all aspects of gameplay rather than just the platforming.

The significance of Ocarina of Time's musical score goes beyond the subtle interactions of foreshadowing and heuristic, however. The game engine's sophistication is such that, for the first time, musical phrases can blend seamlessly as Link crosses from one musical signature area into another and, more importantly, as Link encounters a dangerous enemy. Object 10 is a clip of what happens musically as Link approaches an enemy. The blending effect is initially subtle, but blossoms into full-blown "attack" music which, much like the Castle Theme from Super Mario Brothers, heightens the drama of the conflict and alerts the player to more focused performance.

Taking on the notoriously hard Super Mario 64’s Any% 0-star category, a new player has climbed to the top of Princess Peach's castle to kick Bowser and the other speedrunners off their perches. Speedrunning Super Mario 64 is tough enough, but completing the game without collecting a single one of the 120 stars or meeting up with Yoshi requires some clever usage of the title's many glitches that have been exploited over the years.


Above all else, Super Mario World’s key to success is pacing. There are little to no interruption to gameplay, each stage seamlessly transitions into the next, and players are almost always guaranteed to make some semblance of progress– either through the main game or by uncovering secrets. Even the levels themselves are perfectly paced, always giving players a generous timer that’s never too generous when hunting for secrets.

I still maintain that Super Mario Bros, for the NES is one of the best platform games ever made. I'm sure a lot of you out there would agree. SMB DX for the 6BC is in many ways, a nearly perfect companion to every GBC owner out there. It's the added stuff that makes this such a good buy. Two-player Race Mode is a gas, and the SMB Lost Levels were almost worth the price of admission alone. The only thing that would have made SMB DX better is more two-player levels.



The console wars of the early '90s weren't just fought on specs alone – software was perhaps the biggest deciding factor when it came to buying either a Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. Nintendo had Super Mario World, Zelda and Metroid, while Sega had Sonic, Streets of Rage and Phantasy Star. However, it was the games that came out on both systems that provided players with the best way of comparing their respective talents, with Capcom's Street Fighter II being one perfect example.

There are tons of games for the players to play on Nintendo 3DS such as Super Maria games, The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Super Smash Bros,Luigi’s Mansion, and Fire Emblem awakening. Among the most popular ones are Mario Kart 7, and Super Mario 3D Land.


Superstar Saga was the start of a new sub-series, and it brilliantly adapted the Mario franchise into a turn-based RPG, much like Super Mario RPG had done years before. Players control Mario and Luigi both, but the turn-based combat is different from the rest of the genre, as there's a big emphasis on getting the timing of attacks correct. Superstar Saga featured stellar writing that really set a hilarious tongue-in-cheek tone, and it's a precedent the rest of the series would follow. The combat system may not be as complex as other RPGs, but Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is simply a delightful experience.

Kamek, again under the name Magikoopa, reappears in New Super Mario Bros. U (and New Super Luigi U) as the tertiary antagonist and a boss. In addition to starting the light purple tornado that shrouds Peach's Castle, Magikoopa appears at the beginning of Boom Boom boss fights (from Layer-Cake Desert onwards) to empower him, by giving him new abilities, or enlarging him. Magikoopa also appears at Screwtop Tower to empower the boss of the tower, Boss Sumo Bro. Magikoopa makes his appearance as a boss in Slide Lift Tower, where he uses magic blocks which contains enemies to crush the players and shoot magic blasts that turn the blocks of the floor into Donut Blocks upon contact. Finally, Magikoopa makes one last appearance at the end of the first Bowser fight in The Final Battle, where he is unconscious and being held by Bowser Jr, who wakes him up and convinces him to turn Bowser into Super Bowser to fight off the Mario Bros. Magikoopa is not seen anywhere in the ending.


The Super Mario Mash-up was released as downloadable content for the Wii U version on May 17, 2021 (though it comes bundled with the physical release), alongside the Nintendo Switch version on May 11, 2021, and as part of a free update to the New Nintendo 3DS version on June 5, 2021. It was developed in conjunction with Nintendo. Though the mechanics of Minecraft remain the same in the pack, everything has been visually changed to match the aesthetics of the Mario franchise, which includes different skins for the player and every block, item, and mob. There is also a premade world containing several Mario landmarks and multiple enemy gauntlets and jumping challenges; additionally, the Mash-up comes with its own soundtrack comprising almost entirely of music from Super Mario 64.

In Super Mario 3D Land, Banzai Bills start appearing in World 8-5 and are more common in the special worlds, appearing in three levels of the game. These Banzai Bills appear to be more similar to their Super Mario World counterparts than the Banzai Bills in later games, as they lack the red highlights on their eyes and do not spin around when fired. Unlike their other 3D iterations, they can be defeated by being jumped on; other methods of defeating them include touching them as Statue Mario or using a Boomerang thrown by Boomerang Mario. In World 8-5, the players need to dodge the line of incoming Banzai Bills while traversing through Red-Blue Panels.

Robot 64 is an allowed to-play platformer like old fashioned games like Super Mario 64. Players control Beebo, a charming robot on an excursion to vanquish the sun. They can investigate hugely innovative, bright, and wacky universes, gather frozen treats, and even form their own levels to challenge companions.


In Takahashi’s Super Mario Bros, players roll a die to advance their pawns (every player gets their own) along the white-bordered spaces. At ジャンプポイント “jump points,” for example, players must flip over a Jump card to determine whether Mario jumps successfully, landing in the blue or red space directly ahead, or unsuccessfully, reverting Fire or Super Mario to his smaller form. Another stop point near the end of the underwater section of Area 3 demonstrates a modified “jumping sugoroku” structure. The stop text instructs the player to roll the die and advance to the space with a number that matches their roll.

In the evolution from two dimensions to three, Super Mario 64 places an emphasis on exploration within vast worlds that require the player to complete multiple diverse missions, in addition to the occasional linear obstacle courses as in traditional platform games. While doing so, it still preserves many gameplay elements and characters of earlier Mario games, and the same visual style.

Magmaarghs, debuting in Super Mario Galaxy 2, are related creatures literally made out of molten lava, allowing them to pass directly through and around solid obstacles. They've since appeared in other games, always in the same role. They hide inside lava pools and surge out when the player passes by, attempting to devour them when they pass too close. Other varieties include the Magmaws, smaller and with more simplistic facial features they're essentially plumes of lava with gaping mouths and dot eyes, and the fishlike Charvaarghs, which breach out of lava like jumping dolphins to try and eat Mario.

Vegetables return in the game BS Super Mario USA. They are used in the same manner in the predecessor. The game introduces giant turnips that cannot be picked up. Instead, these giant vegetables are thrown by Princess Peach off-screen when the game's time reaches certain points in the script. It will take out any enemy in its path but can also hurt the player's character as well. Likewise, black giant turnips with angry faces are also thrown by the villains from off-screen.



Whilst passionate Mario Kart aficionados dumped the Italian plumber after a few Grand Prix and rounds of sofa multi-player, Mario continues to be the generally well-rounded participant for starters and on the other hand nongame players, and will be offering the best enjoyable and encouraging trip due to his splendid and outstanding mediocrity. Koopa Troopa and Donkey Kong Junior, the two of which made an appearance in Super Mario Kart, didn’t come back for Mario Kart 64, and were changed by Donkey Kong and Wario In pre-launch screenshots, a Magikoopa was playable, but prior to the game’s final launch the Magikoopa was changed by Donkey Kong. Simply run this curser over any star-bits you see and they’ll immediately be collected. Rather than restricting each stage to one music track, as in the previous games stages have a selection of music tracks usually from the game series the stage is from, and players can choose which music track they want to play on the stage using the My Music mode. For example, on the Delfino Plaza stage (image shown on the right), players can choose between the Delfino Plaza theme from Super Mario Sunshine, the title/ending theme of Super Mario World, the main theme to New Super Mario Bros, and many more. Players can set how commonly the track may appear on the stage. There was also a minimap, though the concept of displaying a map in-game would be passed down to its remake. Coins resembled how they appeared in past games rather than having a carving of a Star on them. When Bowser was defeated, he'd leave behind multiple coins and a Power Star.

This believable, pleasant little Pianta town invites the player to test out their new FLUDD capabilities throughout its multiple layers.


The final Green Star is found after the level's checkpoint, and players will again need to have the Cannon Box powerup in Super Mario 3D World to access it. While riding the Switchboard, fans should shoot a cannonball at the second switch in order to guide the track toward the Star. Then when the Switchboard is in line with the collectible, players should fire a second shot to obtain it, taking care not to go off the edge of the track.

Nintendo was able to strike an equal balance between gameplay elements and levels that challenge each gamer to outplay each other and garner a higher score, while at the same time challenging the group to work as a team. Amidst all of these new and returning elements to the gameplay, Super Mario 3D World‘s strongest point is that while the game is an exhilarating cooperative multi-player experience, it can stand on its own two feet as a single-player experience and be just as enjoyable.

After using a Toad House, the players will get a tip, reminding them to use items on a tough course in Red Toad Houses or to visit Peach's Castle to watch hint movies in Green Toad Houses. There are three colors of Toad Houses: red, green, and yellow. If Mario gets a Red Toad house, he will play Power-up Panels. If he gets a Green Toad House, he will play the game 1-up Blast.


Super Mario Sunshine is an Action-Adventure, Third-person Perspective, Platform and Single-player video game created by Nintendo EAD for GameCube. It is the 2nd marvelous title in the series of Super Mario 3D and takes place on the tropical Island, where Mario, Princess Peach, Toads, and Toadsworth are taking a vacation. Then suddenly an antagonist appears looking like Mario named as Shadow Mario and mess the Island with graffiti and kidnap Princess Peace and blamed on Mario. The player assumes the role of the protagonist and his main task is to explore the environment from a third-person perspective and struggle to clean the environment using a device called FLUDD while rescuing the Princess. The game offers the similar components with its predecessor, Super Mario 64. There are a set of levels and each level consists of numerous objectives that the player needs to complete at any cost. As the mission ends, the game rewards the player with points that can be used to unlock further content like missions, environment and characters.

Players can join in together and fight back against Bowser and his henchmen. Chances are if you own the Nintendo Wii then you had a copy of New Super Mario Bros. However, if you didn’t then this is one game that is still incredibly fun to play with family and friends today.


As seasoned makers ourselves, we weren’t fazed by any of this, but we wonder if younger or less experienced players may be a little bit overwhelmed by the amount on offer to them. Yamamura does a great job easing people in, but you’re required to actually listen to him if you want to learn more, and not everyone is down for that particular flavour of party. Still, the name of the game is Super Mario Maker 2, and the name of that game is experimentation; it’s a big box of LEGO bricks with only one rule: you have to be able to get to the end. It’s bold for Nintendo to choose this option, but we think in the long run it’s for the best, certainly for veterans.

After clearing Layer-Cake Desert-1, an enemy called Nabbit appears and steals an item from a Toad House connecting that level, heading back to Acorn Plains-1. When the player enters a stage with Nabbit, the objective is to race him to the goal, trying to catch him before he can get away. If the player succeeds in catching Nabbit, they are rewarded with a P-Acorn. Replacing the Toad saving in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Nabbit only appears in one stage in the first seven worlds.

When the acceleration is high, the character takes very little (or no time) to go from zero to maximum speed and back, resulting in very fast responding, “twitchy” controls, as seen in the Mega Man series (I believe that Mega Man actually employs infinite acceleration, that is, you’re either stopped or on full speed).


In this fighting game, you have a list of many characters from different comics. You will have Naruto, Luffy, Goku, Mario, Zelda, Kirby. That means they will become rivals in the same match (up to 4 players). In the match between Luffy and Naruto, who will win? Of course, the skills that each character possesses will resemble the original comic books. Mario can fire fireballs, Naruto has ninja skills, and Goku can transform into Super Sayda.

When played solo, Super Mario 3D World keeps throwing out callouts — on the world map and at the start of every level — for other players to join in. It’s akin to what you might see from an arcade beat-’em-up, trying to entice another source of quarters with a Marge or a Rafael joining the fight. But if you manage to wrangle another player, the chill dynamic during solo play will change drastically.


Nintendo has perhaps the longest, most illustrious track record in the history of the games industry, so if you're hoping to learn the best ways to design and create your own video games, you'd be hard pressed to find a better instructor. While the gaming giant has released titles like Super Mario Maker 2 to give players a chance at designing their own creations, Nintendo hopes to build on that with Game Builder Garage.


Players will need to carry the key down the cliff without falling into the water, taking damage, or picking up a different item. If any of these things happen, the key will disappear and Mario will have to go up and grab it again. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury players should first find a way to drop onto a piece of sand below and then slowly and carefully make their way back to the cage. There's no right or wrong method here, but players should just make sure to take their time. Having to travel back up to this spot can get irritating.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is an upcoming Switch port of one of the last Wii U exclusives that have yet to make their way over to the Nintendo Switch. Along with the base version of the game, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury includes a new mode starring a giant version of Bowser. In this mode, the player needs to complete tasks, while working alongside Bowser Jr. Bowser, as a colossal Kaiju-styled version of Bowser constantly emerges. Evidently, it's up to the player and their unlikely ally to power up Mario in order to fight back. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury also includes QoL improvements, such as speeding up all of the playable characters. The touchscreen functionality of the Wii U GamePad has also been replaced with gyro controls, so players won't need to move to handheld mode to finish certain stages.

Super Mario Maker 2 will include lots of new features. It's now possible to add slopes that will allow Mario to slide through stages. The ON/OFF switches can be used to make barriers and platforms, which will be integral to puzzle stages. The Forest stages can now include a rising/descending level of water. There are now red Banzai Bills that can home in on Mario as he's running. There are also new ways to build levels, with stages that can automatically scroll in different directions. It's now possible to create sectioned off rooms using the Scroll Stop feature. One of the biggest changes is the addition of Clear Conditions, which will require the player to complete specific tasks in order to finish stages.

In most games, it is impossible to increase a level's time limit. However, some games including Super Mario World, Super Mario 3D Land, and Super Mario 3D World feature a collectible (such as a green berry or a + Clock) that allows the player to increase it by that value.


I could end it there, but I’ll elaborate if I could indulge you for a few paragraphs. I may embellish a little given my everlasting love for this title, as it deserves an obscene amount of gilding. From its early beginnings as a simple tech demo, Super Mario Galaxy broke the mould and proceeded to deliver its most ambitious gameplay design to date, taking our crimson capped superhero beyond our earthly hemisphere. While our favourite plumber’s previous 3D title’s may have given players territorial freedom to roam in traditional platforming manner, Nintendo decided to take it up a notch and have players scope 360° spherical landscapes. While much of its core gameplay loop stays the same, the title deviates its framework from equilateral areas to multiple planets for Mario to traverse through.

Cam Shea of IGN rated the game 7/10, noting that Super Mario 3D World retained "the entertainment value from the fact that each level is typically built around a unique gameplay twist", but said that "the gameplay actually feels like a bit of an awkward fit for the presentation". They also called multiplayer "chaotic and fun, but also haphazard", and said that "3D World's levels feel much more appropriate for one – or possibly two – players". When discussing Bowser's Fury, they stated it was "quite cool seeing how the world is reinvented whenever Bowser blows his top", but they "did get a little tired of the constant interruptions", saying that "it quickly becomes apparent that fighting Bowser is an extremely repetitive way to restore the world".


One element of gameplay that proved problematic in the translation of the game onto other consoles is the issue of Murphy. One of Rayman’s evil-fighting buddies, Murphy the fly operates on the Wii U gamepad as a sort of assist player, moving obstacles, changing parts of the environment, and even shooting at fiece dragons to help his friends get through. When playing multiplayer, One regular player plus one player as Murphy is really the way to go, as it gives players a legitimate form of multiplayer platforming without the jumble of having a bunch of players running around on the same screen. Even when you do have more than one player on the main screen, though, there isn’t really much of a conflict between players. If you’re playing the game single-player, there are a couple levels in each world that require you to play as Murphy, which raised concern before the game’s release. But your tasks on the touchscreen are much more varied than, say, playing with the gamepad’s touch controls in New Super Mario U. Every time I was prompted to switch to Murphy, I met it not with a groan, but with eagerness to see what would be in store this time.

There are no lives in this campaign. Instead, a random power-up is given for every 100 coins collected. The player loses 50 coins upon dying, similarly to Super Mario Odyssey.

Super Mario 64 is set in Princess Peach's Castle, which consists of three floors, a basement, a moat, and a courtyard. This is easier to do as Luigi since he jumps higher. When the credits start and Mario or Luigi is on the Crescent Moon Planet, the player needs to ground pound the left side of the Moon as much as possible to tilt it. Then, Mario or Luigi must perform a backward somersault while the Moon is rising. If done correctly, Mario or Luigi falls from the moon and a Bubble (which looks identical to the one that saves Mario or Luigi from falling from the Comet Observatory in Super Mario Galaxy) surrounds the plumber and tries unsuccessfully to bring them back to the Moon. Mario or Luigi will be stuck in the bubble falling endlessly for several credit scenes, with the planets visited off-screen. Eventually, Mario will reach solid ground, but the graphics will remain messed up in various ways. For example, the platform in the Yoshi Star Galaxy may become invisible, the scene with the defeated Bowser may only consist of a simple desert background, and the camera may point the wrong direction.

Granted, Dry Dry Desert is a bit smaller than Red Dead Redemption, but the fact was that the game didn't hold the player's hand and tell them where to go; exploration was up to each individual person. For Mario's first adventure on the 3DS, Nintendo aimed to combine the 3D gameplay of Mario 64 with the linear course design of classic Mario side-scrollers (but Mario 3, in particular). This game is for players who love the 3D movement of more recent titles, but miss the straightforward platforming challenges of yesteryear.

Super Mario Maker's release has brought new attention, especially among non-developers, to the structure and design of several of video game history's most important and enduring platformers. The people who are worried that they won't be able to play Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury with their friends won't have to worry. The original game only featured local co-op, but Nintendo has added online multiplayer to the Switch port. This should also apply to the Captain Toad stages, allowing players from around the world to take on the role of the Toad Brigade. This new co-op feature is even better than the Switch version of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, as that only included two-player co-op. The only question will be the quality of the online connectivity and general user experience, areas where Nintendo historically disappoints.

Completing this the first time through with Mario is already extremely difficult. But after collecting all the Power Stars, Super Mario Galaxy throws out a twist and allows the player to replay the entire game as Luigi. The thing is, Luigi controls a lot different than Mario. He jumps much higher, but has much less traction, slipping and sliding like he is on ice at all times.

They can be enlarged by a Super Mushroom or given wings (the former will simply enlarge them and the latter will make them jump around while running, similar to a Paragoomba). They can be placed in Blocks, Pipes, Bill Blasters, and on tracks.
